Confession: I love New York City.
Seattle will always be my home but I try to find every excuse possible to visit the Big Apple and get a taste of the newest brews flowing from the taps at LIC Beer Project.
Not only is the 4+ UT rated brewery located in the heart of Queens, but their NE-style hazies-with-a-twist are defining the New York City craft scene. When I asked around their street art-adorned taproom for what to order, the same two words came out of everyone’s mouth: SAMO IPA.
I can’t get enough of SAMO’s hazy hop profile and clean finish, every sip takes me back to that first pint in LIC’s taproom. The pillowy peach and dry, dank pine -- every flavor takes me back to the streets of NYC.
This hazy orange pour has been a tap favorite for 3 years, and it’s creamsicle-like mouthfeel and signature dry finish has earned it a 4.22 on BA. Aromas of lemon and Valencia orange give way to juicy mango and bursts of ripe cantaloupe on the taste buds. Hints of passionfruit and stonefruit disguise the 6.5% ABV and the pillowy mouthfeel finishes clean and dry.
It’s this unique take on a fresh style that has me joining fans in shouting from the rooftops, saying LIC is one of the top 3 breweries in New York City. Their small-batch IPAs are some of the best in the city and I wish I could bring home more than a six-pack of SAMO in my suitcase.
It’s a good thing Direct.Beer got the hazy hop hookup.
