According to Hubbard’s Cave’s Instagram, Rocky Road ice cream was invented by William Dreyer in March of 1929. After the stock market crash in October of that year, Dreyer and his partner gave the flavor its current name “to give folks something to smile about.”

I’m guessing the old ice cream maker was being ironic. But, one thing’s for sure: if Americans could pull through the Great Depression, we can certainly pull through 2020!

And, I gotta be honest — if there was ever a time we needed something to smile about, it’s right now. Luckily, every decadent sip of today’s Rocky Road (2020-1) Imperial Stout has me grinning from ear to ear!

To craft it, the dark beer masters at Hubbard’s Cave packed this brew with rich chocolate and fluffy marshmallows, along with sweet vanilla, creamy lactose, almonds, and walnuts. The scent is like a blend of amaretto and chocolate-covered marzipan, and each sip envelops my tongue in a velvety smooth, ice cream taste.

And, once I start to feel its giggle-inducing 12% ABV, I can jump from zoom call to zoom call and still feel as gleeful as a puppy!

We only have 24 cases of this chocolatey happiness to share, so if you need a little mood booster, I’d suggest grabbing some fast!

The road ahead may be rocky. But with this Stout in hand, I feel like the path to the end of 2020 is paved with marshmallows.

Forbes calls Hubbard’s Cave one of the best breweries in Chicago!
